I am a regular reader of FP&A Trends, and I’m just as much of a fan of that organization’s founder and CEO, Larysa Melnychuk. Would you like to know what she’s reading?
Larysa Melnychuk is a Class Act
I’ve never met Larysa in person, but we’ve connected several time times in LinkedIn. She is always complimentary and pleasant. I appreciate her enthusiasm and the voice she provides to the FP&A community and beyond through her travels globally.
I had a chance to ask Larysa a few questions about the books she reads.
How important is reading in your profession?
Larysa: The reading is the basis of self-development and self-learning. That is why the reading is very important in the modern environment.
What have been some of the most impactful books that have helped shape your career?
Larysa: There are many books. I really like Future Ready by Steve Morlidge and Steve Player, The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman, and Implementing Beyond Budgeting: Unlocking the Performance Potential by Bjarte Bogsnes.
What have you been reading recently?
Larysa: I read Dynamic Management Strategy by Knut Fahlén. I was given this book by the author. It is very exciting.
Do you read books outside your area of expertise? If so, what are they?
Larysa: Yes, I read the books outside of my area of expertise. I like The Magus by John Fowles and books by the Ukrainian writer Iren Rozdobudko.
What are the handful of foundational books you would recommend to young FP&A professionals launching their careers today?
Larysa: All the books I mentioned are very good and I recommend them to the young FP&A professionals. Also, I would add the book by Michael Coveney, Budgeting, Forecasting and Planning In Uncertain Times.
