One of my favorite CFOs is Bob Lung. For the past 33 years, he’s been chauffeuring players and dignitaries at the NFL’s annual Hall of Fame weekend activities in Canton, Ohio. In this fast-paced interview, we talk about Bob’s favorite moments at the Hall of Fame ceremony, what it means to be a driver during this event, and a couple of special stories. We also discuss whether your business should have a Hall of Fame.
Interview Highlights
- Is the Hall of Fame ceremony getting bigger and better each year?
- The 5-day event with a concert, football game, and many other activities used to only have 200 in attendance during its early years.
- Some 3,000 volunteers make this annual event possible. What’s the planning like?
- This will be Bob’s 33rd event as a driver. What do drivers do?
- Are drivers allowed to talk shop with the players they shuttle back and forth?
- Bob’s favorite moments at the Hall of Fame weekend.
- Mark’s favorite part of every speech – when players thank their coaches and mentors starting during the pre-teen years.
- Should every professional have mentors today?
- Should your business have a hall of fame?

Looking for a Great Football Read?
Since we’re on the topic of football, how about a few book ideas on this sport?
I’ve probably read six, maybe seven books about football or where this sport was part of the backstory. Somehow, I’ve gotten lucky on my picks because each title below is memorable, impressionable, and inspiring. Even for the casual football fan, these are books that are hard to put down.
- Season of Life by Jeffrey Fox
- Twelve Mighty Orphans by Jim Dent
- Friday Night Lights by Buzz Bissinger
- The Education of a Coach by David Halberstam
- Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy
