If I’m going to listen to a data science and analytics expert for nearly an hour, that person better speak a language that I can understand and that is relatable. I got lucky and found that person, and his name is Jon Daniels of BambooHR. In this episode, he talks about data lakes, data warehousing, ETL, data governance, no intelligence, BI, and AI.
Who is Jon Daniels?
I got lucky, really lucky. I’ve been a Tableau user for years and have even built a small, micro-business around it. Accordingly, I keep my ear close to the ground to great content and presentations at Tableau. One of those talks geared toward CFOs was by Jon Daniels. His topic was A CFO’s Playbook for Running on Data.
John took a seemingly dry and boring topic and made it simple to understand. Jon delivered this presentation while he was working for Eide Baily. Today, he’s the AI Solutions Advocated at BambooHR.
I enjoyed this discussion so much, I’m certain this is not the last time we’ll visit with Jon.

The Book That Mark and Jon Highly Recommend
While we were talking about data warehousing, Ralph Kimball’s name kept popping up. Ralph is one of the original architects of data warehousing, and his Data Warehouse Toolkit was the first book I ever purchased on Amazon’s website in 1998. You don’t have to be a data scientist to understand it. Nor do you need to read it word for word – have it as a reference.

Jon Daniels has a full-time job, but he’s willing to take on small projects if he can make the time work. Jon says to reach out to him on LinkedIn if you want to connect or ask a question.
If You Liked this Show …
Jon paid Dan Murray the ultimate compliment calling him the best salesperson in business intelligence he’s ever encountered. I pushed back a little. Dan doesn’t sell. He’s a teacher at heart. That’s why I could listen to him all day. If you liked our conversation with Jon, you’ll like the one we had with Dan Murray too.
